March 12, 200817 yr Hello All! I have a bit of an issue I can't recall when it started but it bugs the crap out of me! After YEARS of agonizing pain dealing with windows 2000. We FINALLY got new computers (rebuilt) with fresh clean copies of windows XP pro. My computer is running a Pentium 4 2.8ghz processor (32bit) with 2gigs of ram. (Dell Dimension 3000 motherboard) - I have 3 monitors hooked up to it with the use of an ATI Radeon 7000 dual pci video card. I run diskeeper 10 to keep the drive defraged for optimal performance. I am a huge memory freak i always watch my resource usage. Anyway, Whenever i am working on layouts in Filemaker, I notice considerable lag when making buttons or moving stuff with the mouse. It jumps a bit then starts going. It gets QUITE annoying to edit layouts. I thought it might be my video card, so i switched to another monitor (plugged into my on-board) - and still have no change in lag. I thought it might be the network, so i attempted to work on a layout in a file residing on my computer. No change. What suggestions do you guys have to what might be the issue? I'm desperate for help, I have several big projects coming up for work that will require me to completely change several key relationships throughout 100 or so layouts and 20+ tables, This lag will slow me down quite a bit. Regards, - Mike
March 12, 200817 yr Am I understanding you correctly. You are working on the Layouts while the files are being served? Lee
March 12, 200817 yr Author Correct, But i have also encountered the same lag in performance when loading other database not being served on my own machine
March 12, 200817 yr Don't do this. You can damage your files. I also think that the problems with speed is cause by this, but since I'm a Macintosh user, I'm not familiar with all of the requirements for windows. HTH Lee
March 12, 200817 yr Author Allow me to correct myself, I was not opening the same files we are hosting on my personal computer. I had a database of layouts (theme-library, great collection) - when opening over the network (residing in a folder on our NAS) i experience the same lag as when i copied that file to my personal computer and opened it.
