Is there a way to build a checkbox field/value list that will give you the option of typing more data next to the checkbox?

For example:

@ will represent the checkbox in the value list - the bold name is the item next to the checkbox and the numbers are what I need to type if that item is checked. These numbers will be specific to the record.

@ UIL 123-456-789

@ VBODA 234-567-891

@ NYSSMA 345-678-912

So if "Amazing Grace"(a record) was accepted at VBODA, I would want to type in the cat. number they give me for that chart. And if "Sonata"(a record) was also accepted at VBODA, it'd have its own number, yet both marked for VBODA.

The way I set it up now is a separate text field for the catalog numbers (from UIL, VBODA, etc) BUT - the reason I want to use checkboxes (and not a pull down menu) is because I'm anticipating the same piece of music getting accepted to more than one list. With the checkboxes, you can mark more than one, right? Therefore, if I left the separate field for the numbers as I have it now, I wouldn't have the numbers relating directly to the prescribed list.

Is this about as clear as mud?

Thank you for any suggestions.

I'd suggest you use a related table for this. So if "Amazing Grace" was accepted at VBODA and at NYSSMA, it would have two related records in this table.

Thank you - I have "The Missing Manual" for FM8 and just started looking over this section. Wow. Is that a good source for explaining related tables? I'm a bit overwhelmed right now but I think if I go through the tutorial I can figure it out.

It looks like I've been missing quite a bit from FM!

And here I thought I was doing OK with the huge data base I've created....

I may be back with more Q's
