Tab and Arrow Button Control

Hello Board!

I've just joined your forum and I'm looking forward to learning more about FileMaker.

I have currently built a small database that in the layout consists of fields with drop down menus created with value lists.

When i input information into the records and fields, i'd like to navigate using my tab button. I have successfully setup the tab button to move from field to field in the order i need; but i can't use the arrows.

I'd like to tab into a field, then use the Down Arrow to move down through the list so i can hit the Tab Button again to move out of it and leave the value in the field. This is for speed of entry and means i don't have to take my ahnd from the keyboard.

How can i do this in FM?

Welcome Harry,

with filemaker when in the active field (value list/menu) can type the letter of the value to jump to it, or you can use the up/down arrows to choose a different option to select it you should be able to use the enter key.

however if the field is formatted as "MENU" you need to use the mouse to select it.

Another option is use ZippScript plugin set it up so that it executes a script to select the menu field when you exit the preceding field. Once selected you can use the arrows to choose the item.

Hey, thanks for your reply to my post. It has focused me onto the problem and i've now sorted that, so thanks again!

There are so many menus and stuff that it's all getting a bit on top of me at the moment. However, i have built my first data-entry form and am using it productively. And i am only just beginning to see the possibilities of what i can do with FM. It's a fairly amazing piece of software!

I have another question:

If i want the last selected value to remain selected in a paticular field, how do i do that?

I am entering names and addresses of friends and would like a drop down list to stay at 'Mr' or 'Mrs' until i select otherwise. I am entering them all in blocks of one or the other so this would really help with key strokes.

You can check the auto-enter option of "Value from last visted record". When you create a new record it will take the value of the last record.
