Finding by Making Selection

Featured Replies

Is there a way to Perform Find upon drop-down menu selection?

If that doesn't make sense, here's a scenario:

Three States to find by:

Illinois

Michigan

Colorado

Upon choosing "Michigan," I would like to perform the find without requiring any further actions (e.g., Hitting the Return key, or clicking on another button)

Any ideas?

You, my friend, are looking for one of two things:

First option is a filtered portal. With this, you'll be able to select one of those places in the drop down and a portal will be on the side that will display the joined result set. Please read one of the following: SEU: FileMaker Pro 9 (QUE), or FileMaker Pro 9 Bible (Wiley) if you'd like to implement that as it's a technique that has been documented well enough that we don't have to go there again.

Other option is ZippScript or one of the other script triggering plugins. This is a somewhat more limiting step as it requires leveraging a plugin but it'll work.

Those are pretty much your two options there.

When I use a drop-down menu, I like to see the selection I made from the list before I go on. Sometimes I could get the one above or below the selection I actually want. So, if I were doing your particular example, I would want to make the selection, see it, then click a go button to get the desired results. It may be easier than getting results which are incorrect and having to come back to the drop down menu and start over again.

I suspect you know the script to do it would be Enter Find Mode, Set Field, and Perform Find.
