Calculating negative and positive numbers

I have been trying to figure out how to find the difference between 2 numbers.

Example: +108 and -124 = 32

This is the difference between the two numbers. It seems to work if the numbers are the same like two positive numbers or two negatives.

But the difference isn't 32, it's 232.

... neither the sum is 32; it's -16.

Nice one, Michael! I actually had started to post about the Abs function but decided to wait for clarification. Are we adding(sum), subtracting(difference) or what?
