_henry_ Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Howdy all! I got a simple question. Can you restart the numbering (@@) for every sub summary? For example: Fruits ( in sub summary part ) 1. Apple 2. Mango 3. Banana Animal ( in sub summary part ) 1. Dog 2. Chicken 3. Horse Every time, it has new sub summary "subtitle", it would restart the number (@@). Is there any option that I should choose? Thank you in advance for comments and suggestions :]
Søren Dyhr Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Read Comment's suggestion in this thread: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/196392/post/295538/fromactivity/myposts/#295538 ...although we speak of portalized sets there! --sd
_henry_ Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 Thank you SD for the hint. I will look into it. So, beside using portal, is there another way to do this? Thanks.
Søren Dyhr Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 It's the other way round, summaries arrived way before relations and by them portals - you just need to study the summary fields a bit closer! --sd
comment Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I'm afraid you are missing the point: the summary field will work in a list view too - as long as the records are sorted by the category.
_henry_ Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) Thank you Comment for the respond. Could you please give more information regarding summary field on ChildID. Here's what I tried: I made a summary field in another table that linked to my current table (the one that would be printed - preview mode). I created summary field with running count (ID) and Restart summary for each sorted group based on the value that I want to sort in my current table? Then, I created a portal (containing summary field) in my current layout (current table) and then I sorted based on value on current table? Is that how it works? Edited July 1, 2008 by Guest NB: I tried it again and it worked nice. Thanks ;]
_henry_ Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 Hi Comment, Well, I think I got it fixed now :] Thank you for the help :]
comment Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 You are making this more complicated than it is. Define the summary field in the same table from which your report is produced. No portal or relationships need to be used here. Just place the summary field in the body part of the report layout.
_henry_ Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 Thanks Comment. I saw another thread given by Soren about portal, so I tried to play with it. Finally, I got it fixed according to your suggestion. Thank you :]
