July 12, 200817 yr ok. i did some filemaker programming long time ago, when there weren't any tables. now i'm forced to do it again. this time on filemaker pro advanced. so here is the problem. i created a table in the sam e database. it showed up as a separate layout. in that table i'm storing 3 fields. one of them is to bind the original table with the 'secondary' one. the fields in the secondary table are presented in the main one through a portal. and in the relationship the option to create files in the secondary table from the main one is turned on. now what happens is that even that there are no records in the secondary table there is already one record that shows up in the portal (?!?!) which holds 2 of the secondary table's fields per row. when i type something in the first field in the portal and then move to the second one another record in the secondary table is created (?!?!) with me doing nothing else... how is that possible? it doesn't happened if i have the option to create records through the relationship off. i want to create a record but not that way. it doesn't make sense.. does it? thanks.... July 12, 200817 yr Its not a weird behavior. It is what happens when you have allow creation of record on. It allows for creation of related records through a portal.
July 12, 200817 yr Author i just tested with 2 different database files = not tables in the same file and the same thing happens there too... don't get it. i really do not do anything to trigger a new record creation in the secondary table or the related file... please somebody explain what is happening... thanks...

July 12, 200817 yr and in the relationship the option to create files in the secondary table from the main one is turned on. This created the enterable portal row.
