I have an import script that I am trying to run with Filemaker Server. When I try to perform the script server side it says "script step not supported" in the event viewer. Can importing be performed as a server script step?

Nope currently FMS only supports script steps that are web compatible... Importing is not one of them. You will still have to use a bot to process the imports.
