I want to use a bunch portals on a layout to give me an overview from various tables such as future appointments, outstanding accounts, people to contact etc. However, I can't see how to do this as FileMaker always asks for a related table and all I need it a list of all records from various tables in date order.

Any Ideas?

Portals are a tool for viewing data from a related table hence the message.

You can achieve what you want by establishing an 'x' type (any field can match any field) relationship with the tables that you want to view and then setting the portal to display the data sorted by date
