Hi,I am a new file maker user. I have a problem. We developed a complex program using fm5. The program consist of 15 files. The total size of the files are 5.81 MB (Windows). Our database run very slow. What we can do to make it run faster? Reduce file relationship? make it be a runtime application?

Thank's

Another thing. How many users do you have? Are you running File Maker Server? or are you sharing files... what else is the host computer being used for?

When do you notice the slowness?

We use portal on most of our layout because most of data in form of master detil. When we open a layout, the content of the portal will show very slow. It also very slow when we move on the portal using tab.

One other thing, we need 3 minutes to print one page report using laser jet printer on Mac. It will be faster (about 20 second) if we run it on Windows. Does file maker have better performance on windows?

We are not using fileMaker server in this moment because this program run on stand alone computer.

Sorry, my english is not very good.

Thank's

Several things can slow down the display of lists of records. Complex calculations that are evaluated with the display of each record is one. Displaying summary fields in each record is another. -bd

Portals with thousands of records are not likely to perform well. Portals with sorts based on calculated fields will be slow. Do NOT do finds in a portal. A portal finds ALL related records; keep the the number of related records small.
