Hello

I would be eternally thankful if someone is helping me out on this:

As the title line says I need to print on partially covered label sheets. Any Avery sheet for that matter.

This is to archive film raw material, which is managed in the database.

I understand, that for this I'd need a script. Does anyone have a script for this or could help me out and give me a hint how to do it. Oh and it's for an Apple system.

I think it should be possible in Filemaker anyway, as in most cases you don't have to print out exactly the number of labels available on the sheet.

I need to print the labels on whereever I want, as the tapes don't come in in 20s or something but more like in 3s or 1s, so it would be a big waste not to be able to. So basically if I want to archive 6 tapes and I have a label sheet on which the first 2 rows are already gone, I'd need to tell filemaker to print on the specific spaces I want it to. As well if I want to print only one label and e.g. the next label to print on would be in the 3rd row, the 2nd label.

Anybody out there who could help me? Would be amazing!

Bye,

Sandro

P.S. I know I've postet it elsewhere, but I wasn't sure where to get help!

Hey comment,

thanks for the help 1st of all. I'm rather unexperienced in these things, so I tried the file and it looked like the thing I'm looking for. However when I imported it, it destroyed my database (luckily I had a copy).

In my database I have a Library and I layouted the labels I wanna use, obviously with the fields I want to have on the labels.

Can you describe how exactly I have to use or import the script in my database? I'm sorry if this question sounds stupid, but as I've said I'm unexperienced with label printing.

Regards,

Sandro

Hello again

I'm rather frustrated, as I worked on this all day and it just doesn't work out. It would be great if you (or someone) could help me on that.

I describe what I did on the script (alongside doing it again) and I hope someone could give me an explanation!

So here we go:

1. I do import the script and an error message appears, so far so good.

2. I define Databases, apparently important for the script. My DataID is already embedded in the Library and would be called 'Library #:' The Data (name) would be 'Title:' in my case. So these two are covered.

Then I define a database with the name 'LABELS' as a number and give it and I use global storage.

Then I create a database called Labels Qty as a number. After that I create a Database 'cDataIDR' with the calculation given in the original. I change the parameters from 'DataID' to 'Library #:' leaving spaces on each side of the bracket. Plus I put the number of repetitions to 50.

3. Thereafter I edit the actual script to my needs which means:

- In line 6 I specify 'Go to Layout' to my Labellayout which is called 'Etiketten 2'

- now there is a tricky part (at least for me) in line 14 I change the calculation.

/*Get ( FoundCount ) _> Labels::gSkipLabels*/

to

/*Get ( FoundCount ) _> Labels::gSkipLabels*/

(the _>-sign isn't correct here but in the script)

- I change the Import Records in line 19 to my *.sp7 file

Then I click OK

4. I choose a Button which I have layouted before in my MAIN LIBRARY and Specify it to Perform a Script, I choose the GENERATE LABELS script (hehe obviously)

5. I switch to BROWSE mode and I press the button AND...

the Apple cmd sign appears with a blinking dot on the bottom right corner and nothing else happens. I have to quit FM by Apple-Q not actually by Force Quit.

I reopen it and my records are deleted, but I have 29435 empty ones, rather than around 300 filled out ones before.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT's wrong here.

Probably I should have put my skill level to beginner, or I don't know. I'm really panicking.

Thanks for any help and advice that might come.

Bye and cheers,

Sandro
