Hi all,

I’m new in this forum and regret for my bad English.

I revert to you because you are the sole forum I found related to FileMaker; and for this, thanks a lot, I hope you can help me solving my current problem and the other I’ll probably have!

But now the problem: I’m using a global field in order to have the same text in all my old and new records. When I close the file I’m working with and open it again, my global field doesn’t report me the value I’ve just written and the field is blank. I have to write again the text to be able to use the global field where it’s addressed to (a script opening a file in my net).

I’d like to specify that I’m working on a FileMaker server 7….as host on a client.

Thanks a lot for your help which will be appreciated and precious!

A global field will retain the last value it had while it was single-user/non-hosted.

If you want to always start with the same value in the field, simply close the file on the server, open it as a single user, set the global, then close and re-host the file.

However, if you want the ability to change the field's value and automatically retain it from one session to the next, you'll need to use scripts to store the global field's data in a non-global field when you close the file and then reload it when you open.
