November 18, 200817 yr I have a file on a fm9 server. When I'm the only one using the file I'm trying to do a Copy file as and it's grayed out so I can't do it. Any idea why?
November 18, 200817 yr because it's served. you need to backup the file using a server backup and copy off the backup.
November 18, 200817 yr Author That's a bit of a hassle, but thanks for the answer. I'm relatively new to the server. Also, I log into the server remotely from my workstation. Can I log in directly into a program while on the physical server itself? Mike
November 18, 200817 yr "That's a bit of a hassle..." Yes, but there are good reasons. First is security... we don't want people being able to save a copy of the database so they can run it through a hex editor. Second, and I'm not sure what to call this, but imagine the confusion if there are multiple copies of the database floating around. Users randomly connect to one, do some work, then log back in a while later (to a different copy) to discover their work is missing.
November 18, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the explanation. You're right. I just asked another question in fl server topics. If you get a chance maybe you can look at it and tell me what's going on. Thanks again. Mike
