mleiser Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I have a file on a fm9 server. When I'm the only one using the file I'm trying to do a Copy file as and it's grayed out so I can't do it. Any idea why?
bcooney Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 because it's served. you need to backup the file using a server backup and copy off the backup.
mleiser Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 That's a bit of a hassle, but thanks for the answer. I'm relatively new to the server. Also, I log into the server remotely from my workstation. Can I log in directly into a program while on the physical server itself? Mike
Vaughan Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 "That's a bit of a hassle..." Yes, but there are good reasons. First is security... we don't want people being able to save a copy of the database so they can run it through a hex editor. Second, and I'm not sure what to call this, but imagine the confusion if there are multiple copies of the database floating around. Users randomly connect to one, do some work, then log back in a while later (to a different copy) to discover their work is missing.
mleiser Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 Thanks for the explanation. You're right. I just asked another question in fl server topics. If you get a chance maybe you can look at it and tell me what's going on. Thanks again. Mike
