Is there a way to trigger a script in FMP 8 by exiting a field?

I have a drop down list displaying values from a field, from which I make a selection which gets pasted into a Display field. Problem is I need to Set Field [Display field; '" "] first to get rid of any old info in it.

If I put the script button in the value display field, then the drop down doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Welcome. No, no script triggers on field exit natively in FM9 or less. You could use DoScript Link.

Your setup sounds a bit off. Pasting data from one field to another? If you'd like comment on your design, please expand on what you're trying to do, rather than the how.

Hi

Well, I am trying to build a Display field to contain the results of a series of questions to patients about their symptoms. I have a Data Table which contains numerous questions on patients' symptoms, along with a series of possible answers which are contained in a repeating field. Each tiime I click on the symptom, I can select one of the answers from the repeat field and paste it into the Display to build up a picture of the patient's problem when on the phone.

I realise that the Questions and Answers should have been set up as a many to many table, but this meant populating a large join table, so I hoped to continue with the present kludge. However, my problem is clearing the Display field at the beginning of each consultation when I select the main symptom to discuss.
