John Chamberlain Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 My file prints out correspondence on a weekly basis. I have been having problems with the printer just not recognizing print requests that are generated by a series of scripts. I am using a PC on Windows XP Professional for this and, while watching the Print Monitor window, I see the request show for a half second then it disappears. Today I brought the file home to try and at least get the letters printed on my Mac. But, when I try to print letters for a series of records (with the "All" option selected), the printer prints the first record and then stops. If I try to print from the second record I get this message: "Sorry, Filemaker is unable to continue printing. (Error -8980)". Can anyone tell me what is going on here? TIA, John
John Chamberlain Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Some amplification. I brought up a copy of the file from a month ago, and it does not display this problem. I then made a clone of that file and imported all the records from the current file - and it still has the problem. To me that indicates one or more corrupted records. Can anyone figure how to find the bad records, or will I have to delete re-enter all of them from date of the older file? Finally, I have googled the hell out of and error code -8980, and can't find a single reference. Has anybody hear of a code like this?
LaRetta Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (Error -8980) ... Has anybody hear of a code like this? [color:blue]errNoPagesSpooled -8980 Application called PrOpenDoc and PrCloseDoc without calling PrOpenPage and PrClosePage in between from here and here. I've found other references on Macintosh sites as well, all indicating printer issues. I'm afraid I don't have answers for you, John, but I would look closely at 1) the printer designated in both copies of your file, 2) whether printing 'this record' or 'found set'. I might also try reinstalling the printer. You might try looking for lower ASCII characters in your data using Character Sieve 2 or other such products. But I wouldn't imagine that a Mac would be incapable of printing just because of that.
IdealData Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Try exporting the data to an independent file type - csv or txt, and then re-import to a fresh clone. Incidentally - does FMP 5 run in Panther?
