Jing - Handy Free (or low cost) Application

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

I've been using a free software program for a few months now that I have found to be quite useful. Basically it is an application that takes screen shots and short (up to 5 minute) videos which you can narrate and then quickly post to the web or a folder on your PC or FTP etc. It is really great for doing short demonstrations.

I have used it quite a bit to assist remote FM users that are having problems by demonstrating how to fix the problem on my PC. I then send them a link to the video which they can watch in a standard browser which is enabled for flash.

It also takes static screen shots and provides the tools for circling portions of the screen and making notes.

The software is from TechSmith who is the maker of the popular Camtasia program.

They just came out with a $15/yr Pro version that has some nice features but you get a lot with the free version as well.

I use it all the time, and really like it too.

Hello Lee,

I didn't realize that you had already highlighted this product or I wouldn't have made my post.

Folks, take a look at Lee's example in his previous post. That short clip was probably published on the web in about 30 seconds with the push of one button.

I have found Jing to be one of the most useful tools for helping users with their FM problems.

Hi Ted,

I didn't realize that you had already highlighted this product or I wouldn't have made my post.

No, no, no, that isn't a problem at all. This is one of those tools that deserve to be mentioned again from time to time.

I use it all of the time for the screen shots that I attach, and you can't beat the price either. :

Lee
