April 28, 200124 yr I am having a problem with fm5 on my powerbook 400. When I quit, it is very slow in doing so and does it "rythmically". Almost like it is going to the hard drive and performing some function first. Odd, I know. Also when I empty the trash from the finder it does the same thing. Any help? thanks, mike
April 28, 200124 yr How about when you boot up? Does that take a while? If so, it sounds like your hard drive is shot, and you need a new hard drive. Back up, and get to a repair shop.
April 29, 200124 yr Did this start happening for no apparent reason, or did it start after a disk or operating system upgrade? I had a similar problem on an old powerbook a while ago. The problem was with the disk driver. There was some incompatibility between it and the operating system's disk sleep function. I updated the driver and the problem went away.
May 1, 200124 yr Author It started happening when I began to use my new powerbook 400 firewire. I was using an older powerbook g3 before. It doesn't seem to have a problem when I boot up. Also, when using other macs I have - no problem.
