Running two versions of FM at the same time?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is it possible to run two versions of FM at the same time? I have licenses for FM8.5A and FM10A on my workstation.

Yes, should work without any problems.

After testing, it doesn't work. When I try to execute a previous version, it only brings the focus on the FM process that is open.

You will have to start from the version of FMP and select a file. The files look the same to FMP so it will not know which version to use.

I worked around by opening another account and execute the Filemaker version I want as long as it's not already running under a second account.

This I can execute some time consuming jobs on my second user account.

Test some more.

I usually have more than two versions of FileMaker opened at the same time.

FileMaker wants to default to the hightest version open, or if none are open, then to the highest version available on the computer.

Try opening the file using the Right Button on your mouse, and it will give you a choice of version to open the file with. OR, open the file from within FileMaker.

You are using the Mac version, maybe it's easier. Even when I use the command line it brings me back to the newest version.
