rister Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I have a question. I know you can choose multiple selections in drop down menus when holding down the shift key but after I do that and let go, only one of my selections shows up in the field. Is there a way for all my selections to show up? Thanks for any help
bcooney Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) I think it would be best to use a portal to collect selections or even a checkbox group. It depends upon what your collecting and how you intend to use the data (reporting, finding, etc.) Edited March 4, 2009 by Guest
rister Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) They don't want to use checkboxes because there are like 50 categories. It would take up way too much room. Does anyone know if there is a way to do what I want to do? Basically each record has 1 or more categories. Very similar to tags. It would be nice to be able to select more than one which would simply show up in a field on the record. Edited March 5, 2009 by Guest
bcooney Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 If a record can contain more than one value for a field (Categories in your case), then you should have a portal to child records. Why don't you search for threads about join tables.
rister Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 (edited) I am a little confused. I made a join table and in my portal I can select more than one category in multiple dropdowns but can't search the portal categories. I'd like only one dropdown menu where I can select multiple items using the Shift key and then be able to search for each of those selections. Perhaps I am just not doing this right...? I included what I tried if anyone can point me in the right direction... I know it's possible in other databases/languages, just not sure how to do it in filemaker or if it's even possible? test3.fp7.zip Edited March 12, 2009 by Guest
