Hi there,

I am relatively new to FM, but have been asked to sort out a problem!

We have a database which has 1500 + records. It is loosing detail (client names, addresses) when we close the file and reopen it.

This is the spec:

FM Pro 5, iMac (running Mac OS 8.6) 160 MB RAM.

Help!!!

Although I doubt the reality of what you are saying, I can offer a few suggestions.

Make sure that you have the latest version/revision of Filemaker 5. v3 is the latest revision I think. You can download this from Filemaker's web site.

Usually when people claim that Filemaker is "losing data" it means that they were doing something wrong in the first place, like entering data while in Find mode, or entering data into Global fields, neither of which are saved after closing the file.

Make sure that if you have any scripts set in the Preferences as Startup or Shutdown scripts, that they are not doing anything that might erase data or delete records.

Make sure that what the user is describing is actually happening, and that they are just not losing thier place.

Make sure that the EXACT problem is able to be replicated.

1500 records is nothing compared to what the database can handle.

2Gig, now is that a FileMaker limit, or a Windows/Mac File System limit ?

If it's an OS limit does OS X change that in any way?

(not that I'm near 2G yet, but it's nice to know...)

I remember when a friend labeled his New 500Meg HD on a 7100 "The Black Hole" because he thought there was no possibility of EVER filling it... smile.gif" border="0 Now you couldn't install a lot of new OS's on it!
