Viewing container data

Featured Replies

I am confounded as to how one might view container data when a picture has been stored in it. Is it true you have to export it to get a file path and then show it in a web viewer? Is there a way to show images stored in Filemaker without plug ins? I am aware that I can display the container with a thumbnail of its contents. but I would like the user to be able to click on it and obtain a larger view. Is this possible? Thanks for reading these questions!

You can view the stored image directly in the container field (provided it's of a supported type). If you have a thumbnail, that would be stored in ANOTHER container field. If you want, you could define the thumbnail as a button that goes to a layout (or a tab panel) where the "real" container is.

Your file is named ImageTest, but it deals with FILES, not PICTURES. I find that rather confusing.

Yes, you're right. It's really a demo of referenced vs embedded files.

Thanks to both of you, your help clearly provided the answer I hoped for. I was storing images in the database and could not get them viewed- your suggestions and demo file were most useful in that. Sorry if the stating of my problem had vagaries, its hard to describe some of the things one needs to do in this program. Again, thanks, and happy Filemaking!
