Newbies willspence Posted April 1, 2009 Newbies Posted April 1, 2009 We're deploying a FM db using Server 10 on an intel MacMini running OS X Server 10.5. Local performance is good, but from the outside, it's abysmally slow. What is the preferred method of deploying for this setup? Thanks Bill
Fitch Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 It's more likely to be a problem with your connection speed than the CPU. If you can't upgrade your internet speed you might want to consider hosting the file with a FileMaker hosting company.
Newbies willspence Posted April 2, 2009 Author Newbies Posted April 2, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the quick response. Client says it's very fast when he uses "Log Me In" to access a local PC which then logs in to the Filemaker db. They have a 1.5 Mbps / 128 DSL line. Even if they got a cable connection, the speed would still be limited by the client connection, no? If they move the db offsite, then even the local users will have the same poky connection, no? again, thanks Edited April 2, 2009 by Guest
IdealData Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 The slowest part of the 'bottleneck' is the OUTBOUND speed of the site that is hosting the files. As you say they have 1.5Mbps (IN) and 128Kbps (OUT) - this is quite insufficient for both directions. The "log me in" is obviously only a window 'viewer', and as such is running a local connection with only the screen image being delivered on the internet connection - no data is being passed up or down, hence the speed difference.
wclo Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 http://worldcloud.com can provide you a dedicated FileMaker Server 10 Advanced platform on 30 day free trial - that way it is on the public internet with dedicated ip and accessible by all - easier than trying to do it in-house - always connected at 1Gbps with no surcharge for bandwidth -
