Format field as a scrollable list?

Featured Replies

I know that I can format a field on a layout as a checkbox set, radio button set, drop-down list, or pop-up menu. But what I would like to do is format a field as a scrollable value list, where the user clicks on a value to highlight it.

If this isn't clear, think about the interface in iTunes: You have, essentially, three global fields (g_Genre, g_Artist, and g_Album) that you set by choosing from a scrollable list, and then a portal of records whose fields (genre, artist, album) match the global fields.

I thought there might be a way to rig a drop-down menu to stay "always open". That would sort of simulate what I am after. But whenever I exit the field the list closes.

Is this possible? It seems like selecting a value from a scrollable (always-open) list is a fairly common interface element in many applications.

You are describing a portal.
