How to maintain referenced filepath names

Featured Replies

Not sure where to put this question.

It does relate to getting data into filemaker so I'll start here.

I have a database that makes extensive use of graphics.

For file size reasons I am thinking the images should inserted as a reference rather than embedded.

My question is how to keep the referenced filename paths intact.

If I keep the database in the same folder as the images, but move the folder from hard-drive to portable pin drive (or elsewhere) will the relative addresses stay the same or will the database be unable to find the referenced images?

You should be able to still access the files as long as the images are not moved. It should look for the relative path first prior to the absolute.

John,

Thanks for your response.

You are correct.

I tested this on several machines and the referenced files stay linked no matter where the machine is, as long as the folder stays intact.
