Calculating Number of Checkboxes

I just want to calculate the number of items checked in my field, the field is a text field with a value list displayed as checkboxes, If 2 items are checked I want it to say 2, etc...

I know this seems like a simple question but for some reason I don't remember how to do this.

Try ValueCount ( field ).
