Calculations as match fields in relationships....

Featured Replies

Please can someone straighten me out on this one.......

From what I was aware you were not able to use calcs as match fields in relationships....This is what I have been told.

Although I have by default done this and it worked. Please can someone explain to me why I was told this and the reasoning behind it!!! Life would be easier if this was possible! I hope whoever taught me this was wrong!

If your calculation is STORED then you can use it as part of the relationship key.

If the calculation is UNSTORED then that is where there are limitations.

An unstored calculation can be used on the PARENT side of the relationship. It can NOT be used on the CHILD side of the relationship.

Hope this clears it up for you.

Even STORED calculations must be INDEXED to make a key field. If indexing is switched off it will fail.
