shoon Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) Hey there, Im totally new in FileMaker, was told to get it and im suppose to learn myself asap. Therefore Im still kinda blur with everything in it and still in the learning stage. I have FileMaker Server Advance on a machine running on Windows Server which serves as a dedicated server. And FileMaker Pro(trial version) on the other machine serves as a client. Problem: I cant seem to access the sample database hosted by FM Server from FM Pro. Tried Open Remote, Im able to see the host name, but there are no files available. Checked FM Server, status of the database is Normal. Hopefully all the experience users here can give me a tip or two on this :( Edited June 3, 2009 by Guest
HammerHeD Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Not much more experienced then you are, but try this: If open remote isnt working, try going to the IP your server is on (ie:192.168.1.35) and add /fmi/iwp to the end (so in above example it would be 192.168.1.35/fmi/iwp). If you have Instant Web publishing enabled for the file, it should open in a web browser. Not sure that'll help you much, but its about all I can suggest myself Good Luck
mr_vodka Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I'm not sure if the sample file has Network access turned on for all users and 'Do not display' unchecked, although I would imagine so. I would double check this by going into: File --> Sharing --> FileMaker Network.
shoon Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 HammerHeD Thanks for the reply, I am able to view the sample file there, Thanks! But I was hoping I wouldn't have to check the ip address each time I wish to access to the database. Is there a way for that? mr_vodka Thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure the steps u advise was to FM Server or FM Pro, therefore I tried both, On FM Server, under File there was only Exit. Went through Database Server configuration, List all database and FileMaker accounts only checkboxes are already checked. On FM Pro, followed the steps, Netword sharing was turned on, Currently open files was empty. After I did both, the situation is still the same. Actually, I was hoping that I could share databases between my FM Server and FM Pro. Sorry for all the fuss created.

Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 You might want to take a look at the Ports Tech Info at http://thefmkb.com/6427 for additional information about port configurations. Steven
