how about just letting me know if it's empty or not?

Do your container fields contain embedded files or references only?

embedded files so that they can be viewed through IWP

Short answer: no.

You could export the files to a known location (one-by-one, using Export Field Contents[] in a loop), then include links to the exported files in the Excel file. Maybe there is a way in Excel to use these links in order to embed or display the files - but I don't know enough about that.

thanks for taking the time to help me out again.
