Import 1000 email txt files

Featured Replies

From an old web solution I need to import about Import 1000 email txt files:

Step 1 is to consolidate all files into one txt file (1000 lines)

Step 2 is to delimit data in the new txt file

Step 3,4,5 etc is FileMaker functionality

How can I consolidate all txt files (Step 1) into one txt file, line by line, which I can then use in FileMaker?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

You can import the individual files (each file as a record, with all content going into one field), using Import Records > Folder… .

Yes, I did this. But I rather prefer to do step 1 outside FM. Is there a simple way or even a little application to consolidate all txt files into one txt file before I run the FileMaker script for importing?

Well, if you have already done this, you can export a consolidated file right out of Filemaker - though I can't see what purpose that will serve...

Or, if you prefer, you can use TextWrangler, Automator, AppleScript, command line... these are just a few (free) options that come to mind. I am sure you'll find more if you google "OS X combine text files" or similar.

Yes, good tip. I will export from FM and process in BBedit and re-import im FM.
