June 23, 200916 yr Newbies Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone out there needs a QA specialist or a writer for system documentation and user guides. I’ve worked in a FM development environment for almost 9 years now and have been freelancing for about 3 years. I completely understand the unique environment of working with FM based solutions and know that rapid development leaves little time for full QA and proper documentation. I know that most developers hate testing. But I love it. I don’t develop myself, but I know enough about DB design to talk the talk and test solutions from both a developer’s perspective and an end-user’s perspective. In most cases, the question to answer during QA is not “does it work” but rather “can it break”. If anyone is interested in more information about my background and skills, please post here and I will get in touch with you. I can provide samples of documentation and references. P.S.> if this is the wrong place to post such a thread, please let me know. Thanks so much!
June 23, 200916 yr Are you looking for remote consulting work only or would you entertain onsite work as well? Consulting only or permanent? Please state what type of work you are looking for.
June 24, 200916 yr Author Newbies Over the past 3 years, I’ve worked as a remote consultant. However, I would also consider onsite work. I am open to all possibilities. Flexibility is key to forming the right working relationship. I am comfortable working as a contract employee but would also consider permanent employment opportunities. It really depends on the needs of the hiring firm (or person) vs. my ability to fulfill the requirements. I am open to all possibilities. Please let me know if we should chat. And thank you for your reply.
July 14, 200916 yr Susan! I just wanted to post on the thread that I've worked with Susan on several projects in the past 10 years and her post is accurate if not modest. She loves to test your work properly, she loves to make a good developer better, and ultimately to make a product world-class. With all the new tools and power on the FileMaker platform, it's more important than ever to have every function, every mode, every load, and every deployment scenario tested from a FileMaker-specific testing specialist. Testing successfully and on-budget is very different on other platforms, and Susan is the only FMP-specific QA specialist I've ever known. R&D money is tight as can be these days, but from my experience, the downtime and 'freebie' bugfix releases resulting from an improperly QA'ed product usually cost more than a testing budget when it's done right.
August 7, 200916 yr Hi there. I am a beginner Filemaker Developer, currently working on a couple of projects for some small business in my area. I am plugging along okay, but would love to have an experienced Filemaker Pro have a look at my work so far and give feedback. How much would you charge for such a thing?
September 3, 200916 yr Author Newbies Hi - sorry for the long wait for a reply. I've been out of the office for a few weeks due to a death in the family. To answer your question about rates, it really depends on what you need. The range is between $50 and $65 per hour. We can chat if you wish. Post a reply if you are interested and we can meet off line. Thanks!
September 3, 200916 yr Author Newbies Hey Jodin! Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well. Thanks for the post! And thanks for the kudos! Hope to be on a project with you again soon. Best regards, ~ Susan
