Newbies Fool5047 Posted July 27, 2001 Newbies Posted July 27, 2001 We have server 3 running on an NT 4 server. It's hosting 20 files and about 25 users. Filemaker server3 crashes at least once a day. The event viewer shows the following error "The Filemaker Pro Server service terminated with the following error: All pipe instances are busy" The server3 is set to host 50 files and 50 users. Any ideas???
DykstrL Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I think your problem is trying to run FileMaker Server on an NT4 Server. In this environment, NT4 Server is given priority for ALL of the machine's resources: processing cycles, network I/O, etc. FileMaker Server will get LOWEST priority. If the server is being used as a fileserver and a print server, FMS is probably not getting many processing cycles or network pipes and is just 'starving'. I highly suggest installing FileMaker Server on just a plain NT4SP6 workstation - it will be much happier. You just need to make sure the machine has a permanent IP address assigned - just like an NT Server. This should be a dedicated machine - running ONLY FileMaker Server and not used for anything else. It does not have to be a 'screamer' computer - just install as much RAM as possible - the more the better. [ July 27, 2001: Message edited by: dykstrl ]
Anatoli Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 dykstrl is pointing at overloaded server. Try his advice and tell us also, what is running on NT server with FM? RAM, processor etc?
Newbies Fool5047 Posted July 28, 2001 Author Newbies Posted July 28, 2001 The first machine was running NT4 server. It has 320megs of ram, ultra scsi HD, dual P3's. This machine is running WWW, FTP, file server, the whole nine yards. It was giving me the same error. So I had the IT guys remove FileMaker server3 from that machine and put it on a dedicated machine. I asked for a NT4 workstation, but they gave me an NT4 server. This machine has 128meg 733 P3, IDE HD. I turned off all the services. FTP , WWW, ect. (I stoped them and then set them to manual, would it be better to set them to disabled). This machine has been crashing daily for the last 2 weeks. The event viewer showed the same error on both machines "The Filemaker Pro Server service terminated with the following error: All pipe instances are busy" Also on both machines DR Watson reports this error when server3 crashes. "Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x00406695 Jim
Anatoli Posted July 28, 2001 Posted July 28, 2001 Hmm, that is strange. Repeated pattern is pointing at: Corrupted Installation CD Bad network Bad HW Bad IT department :?:
