September 18, 200916 yr Hey guys, Thanks for all your help. I want to have a checkbox that when checked turns a contact into a company and thus creates a custom company serial number in another field. I've tried using a calculation for the custom ID field (ifValid checkbox then ) but it hasn't really worked out for me. Ideally I'd want the custom ID to be the first word of the company name and a serial number that only increments if there are duplicate first words. E.g. Stylistics Inc: stylistics1 Whatchamacallit Inc: whatchamacallit1 Brown Hardware: brown1 Brown Groceries: brown2 But again, only if the checkbox is checked. Any help would be immensely appreciated. Best, Rob
September 21, 200916 yr Rob, The best help I can offer is suggest that you do not go down this path. A key field should be meaningless. Either an auto-enter serial or UUID. A contact becomes a company? This is unclear. Let's say it's Dell. Dell is a company. Did their status in your system change? Is that what you're goal is?
October 6, 200916 yr Author Dell is not a good example because there's no way for it not to be a company. Let's say there's a photographer, John. He's been an assistant all his life but he's finally making it big and has just created a company for himself and will start to employ other assistants to help him on shoots. Another example: we have lots of contacts that are vendors who run their own one-man companies. When sifting through them, I want to be able to look at one and say 5 years ago this used to be a mom-and-pop company but it's become big since so I want the company to have it's own entry. Click, a serial is generated. This way I can link 10 employees to a single company entry but leave the very small, single person companies within the contact entries. Does this not make sense?
