Partha Posted December 19, 2001 Posted December 19, 2001 Hi, We'd been using FMPro server on a G4 450 with 256MB RAM & OS 9.2 running almst 70 files with 20 users. Unfortunately, it started crashing once a day. Shifted to the OS X server with the same preferences (on the same machine). The crashing has stopped mercifully, but the client terminals have become very obviously slower while accessing FileMaker. Has anyone else come across this problem? TIA, Partha
Anatoli Posted December 20, 2001 Posted December 20, 2001 I guess it is time to recreate all files from fresh structure and exported data. What else could that be? Virus?
Partha Posted December 21, 2001 Author Posted December 21, 2001 Hi, To avoid crashes on OS 9 what I did was turn energy saving off (set everything to never), turn virtual memory off (which also enhances speed drastically) and physically reboot the server twice a day at 12pm and 4 pm. The days I remembered to reboot, no hassle. The days I don't... One reboot you can set in the energy saver control panel. However the second is manual. Also, rather than recover the files, I saved a clone & reimported the data. Have found that a better bet. Rgds, Partha
Newbies willb Posted December 21, 2001 Newbies Posted December 21, 2001 I am having the same problem under 9.1 with daily freezes. Last time it gave me a error type 8, but I have not found a fix yet.
spragueg Posted December 21, 2001 Posted December 21, 2001 I use this really great program called cron for performing scheduled tasks in OS 9.x. It acts just like cron for unix. It's an alpha or beta but it works flawlessly. Check www.versiontracker.com to download it. Use cron in conjuction with applescript to schedule restarts of you server and you will never have to remember again.
Partha Posted December 22, 2001 Author Posted December 22, 2001 Thanks Spragueg, Am checking out Cron like right now. Rgds, Partha
Partha Posted December 22, 2001 Author Posted December 22, 2001 Hi, The only "crom" i found was "CronniX
spragueg Posted December 24, 2001 Posted December 24, 2001 Sorry I just figured it would be on version tracker. Here's a link... http://gargravarr.cc.utexas.edu/cron/
