A user pointed out to me a single record that every field is populated with "?" and can't be editted.

I read online that this is rare, but that it is a corrupt record.

I looked through the entire database, it is the only one like this.

So I looked though my backups, and found one with an intact copy of this record.

So now I have imported the record back in... works fine... but I can't seem to permanently delete the old corrupted record. I pressed "Delete Record" and it vanished... but whenever I do a search of the fixed one... the one with question marks reappears as well in the list.

Could that mean that the index hasn't refreshed since I deleted it?

If so, how do I reset the index....

The Recover command in FileMaker 10 has a "Use Advanced Options" button (after you select the file), where you can turn off all the checkboxes except "Rebuild field indexes."

The corruption may be more severe, however, in which case the recommended procedure is to Recover/rebuild the file, go to a clone of a good backup, and import the recovered data.

The ?? may not really be a record (although sometimes they are). If you see ??'s rebuild all the indexes for the table, I think you will find that they vanish and records that may be there but couldn't be found with the find command will be found. 'course there may still be the problem of whatever currupted it in the first place.

(Once you rebuild the index you may have a duplicate record)
