January 31, 200223 yr Newbies Hi: I read on another topic that FileMaker Server 5.x was running fine on Win 2000 Pro, So I guess it runs fine on Win 2000 Server.
February 1, 200223 yr FileMAker Server, especially Server 5.5, should not be run on W2K PE. It should run on W2K Server Edition. Old Advance Man
February 1, 200223 yr OAM I just set up FM 5.5 on Win2000 Professional, mostly because in my organisation Professional is free but server is not. Is it going to compromise data integrity, or just a bit of performance (I can live with non-optimal performance in this case). It's hosting <70 files to around 10 concurrent users max. Thanks.
February 1, 200223 yr IMHO it will be OK. And to "Is it going to compromise data integrity" I will say no. Running on server has minor advantages, but just try that, and when all is up to your needs, you can leave it there.
February 1, 200223 yr W2K PE is not designed to be a server OS. It is not optimized for services. FM Server 5.5 is a service. Especially with 70 files you should be running W2K Server. Performance and interaction between the OS and the service. I haven't heard os any corruption reports, provided file sharing is off. Old Advance Man
February 1, 200223 yr I disagree. W2000 Professional are running services fast and many of them. All of the Windows core elements are services. Definitely FM server will run faster, than on Mac OS in background. IMHO Server is a bit more optimized. Best advice as always is -- try that.
February 1, 200223 yr You do not need Windows Client licenses for FileMaker Server. You do need FIleMaker Pro installed on all machines that will access the FileMaker Server.
