I have a value list with 8 colors in it.,

Red

Orange

Yellow

Green

Blue

Violet

Silver

Gold

I would like to make a script to let the user have filemaker pick a color.

I would like to know if there is a way to generate a random choice from a value list?

I have asked this question before but this time I am asking what happens if the list is editable by the user? So another item can be added.

I don't know your setup nor what information you were given prior. But adding to a value list should make no difference. Such a calculation (used in script) could be:

Let (

list = ValueListItems ( Get ( FileName ) ; "Colors" ) ;

GetValue ( list ; Int ( Random * ValueCount ( list ) ) + 1 )

)

Since calc checks the value count (number of entries in the value list) each time, it will always properly adjust.
