I am new at this but I wanted to make an application and let the user be able to download it from the internet. How to I go about protecting the app with serial numbers. Is there a service they can register to? Can someone just get me started on this. I have no experience with this. Thank you

Search the Intellectual Property forum. There are several posts about protecting your work.

When you say, make an application, I assume you mean a FM Runtime? Try searching for posts about runtimes, as well. Remember, FM Runtimes are NOT multi-user systems.

Another way is to "personalize" the database, that is add the company name and address of the purchaser, and not allow them to change it. Since that'll print on all reports, it might be enough to prevent sharing.
