November 21, 200916 yr In a layout that is showing a found set of related table records, in this case grades for a particular student, in which grades are recorded in the related table, how can I display the total of all work for an individual student when viewing a found set of grades for that student?
November 21, 200916 yr A layout does not show a found set of related records. It can only show a found set of its own records. Do you mean a portal? Otherwise gtrr student to grades and create your report of his found grade records. Oh, summary fields, and sub-summary reports will be useful. In FM10, subsummary reports are visible in Browse mode, and might be worth the upgrade price for you. Edited November 21, 200916 yr by Guest
November 22, 200916 yr Author Yes you are right, it is a layout that shows records from a portal, related to the given student. I hope I can explain myself well enough: I need to see the overall grade (which is a mere sum), which now it does when I GTRR over to this particular layout, it also shows ALL related grades for a given student, which is usually what I want but not always. I would like to be able to view a subset of those grades, such as for one month, but I still need to see that sum of all the grades regardless. I am using FM 9 Adv.
November 22, 200916 yr By using a filtered portal, you can show a subset of the student's grade records. And by using a calc field in Student that also uses the same relationship as that used by the portal, you can total the shown grades--Sum (portalRelationship::Grade). You do not need to gtrr.
November 25, 200916 yr Author I see, but how do I, when displaying portion of the grades yet show the total of ALL grades in the portal, not just ones displayed? So here we are in November, I would like to see the November grades for an individual and have their overall grade (a sum) displayed on the same screen. I had thought about going to a layout, getting the total, storing it in a global variable, then going to a 2nd layout that would, e.g. show the November scores, and that global variable, but this seems more like a workaround than a good FM method.
November 25, 200916 yr All you need is two relationships and two calc fields. The first relationship is filtered by dates and is used for the portal and the sum of the filtered grades in the portal. The second relationship would not be filtered by date and would be used in a calc of the overall grade.
