File access/PC Permissions problem?

Featured Replies

This is not a fax question, but a file server/access problem. I need to learn what permissions need to be set on a PC to allow FM Server to recognize a file that is dropped into a watch folder.

We have a PC with a fax server on it (GFI brand). Filemaker Server 9 is on the PC, and when a user sends a fax, Filemaker drops a text file into a watched folder, and the GFI Faxmaker processes and sends the file. Works great.

We are switching to a Mac to host the Filemaker Server 9 solution, and when Filemaker drops the text file into the watched folder on the networked PC, Faxmaker will not process the file.

Any suggestions as to what I need to set, or how to tie the servers together?

Thanks.

Any log files that Faxmaker keeps where you could check what it tries (and fails)?

Thanks for the reply.

When you drop the file into the watch folder, FaxMaker instantly processes it, and if there is an error, FaxMaker leaves an error file in its place in the folder. No error file is there, but the fax does not send.

As a result, I think the file is not actually being created in the drop folder. I am not getting any error that on the Mac server/Filemaker side that says the file could not be created, and the path was accepted in Filemaker's export file settings. That's why I think it is a permissions issue on the PC. Any ideas there? What does the PC server need to know about the Mac that is dropping the file?
