FMServer on XP, client on Windows 7

Featured Replies

I created a solution with FM Advanced 9.

This solution uses FM files hosted on a FM Server 9 under Windows XP Professional.

The client machines use FM Pro 9 under Windows XP.

So far everything worked well and still working normally, but we have to renew our hardware and...

I add a new client machine with Windows 7. As the only officially supported FM under Windows 7 is FM 10, I install this version (still in trial period because I haven't bought the upgrade from 9).

When I try to use my solution on the FM10/Win7 machine, the process of opening and closing files is very slow (about 5 minutes while it takes only a few seconds on the FM9/WinXP clients).

I've tried to open the hosted files manually with the 'Open Remote' option of the 'File' menu and it runs fast enough, like under WinXP.

My question is: why Win7 takes much longer to automatically open the network files than WinXP?

By the way, on the 'Manage External Data Sources' I have the following sequence for every hosted file:

fmnet:/192.168.0.101/file.fp7

file:data/file.fp7

fmnet:/serverName/file.fp7

I have also tried to use a 'file opening' script that would specifically open every hosted data source but I achieved no speed increase at all.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!

This is indicative of file reference problems. FM searches the file references in the order they are presented - so it should be looking at 192.168.0.101 first. If you changed the IP address of the server then it will take some time to "time out" and move on to the next reference.

In a hosted environment the only reference you need is:

file:datafile
