Error encountered communicating with the server

Featured Replies

Hello:

I'm trying to configure filemaker Server 10 adv. on a MAC running OS 10.4.11. I have Java 5 on the machine and when I click the EDIT SERVER DEPLOYMENT it recognizes Apache as the Web Server but when I type in the Host: 192.168.1.101 on Port 80 or port 591 the "Web Server Test fails".

The button next to Web Server is red but PHP is ON.

The button next to Web Publishing Engine is red but XML and XSLT is ON.

Database Server is button is green with ODBC/JDBC is ON. (see enclosed picture)

The Server Status Information button is RED with the error message "An error was encountered communicating with the server".

Anyone give me some ideas I might try. I am connected to a router with all ports open via port forwarding set on the router. The firewall on the hosting machine is OFF.

Don't know what else to do.

Sincerely,

Dom

Are you trying this from the machine itself or from a remote machine?

Try it on the machine itself to remove any network issues.

do http://127.0.0.1:80. If you get an error here then the issue is with the web server (apache) itself because you haven't even reached FMS yet.

It must be with Apache because I do get an error but not sure how to troubleshoot.

Hello all:

I did a reinstall of the OS 10.4, did a software upgrade to 10.4.11 and the JAVA 5, reinstalled FM Server Adv. and all is good. I believe the issue was "Apache related" and since the machine is an old MAC Quicksilver model doing a reinstall seemed to be a good idea and easy.
