FileMaker version compatibility.

Is there any test to determine what the oldest version of FM is that will handle all calculations and run all scripts, of a specific solution?

Here are my thoughts: don't run anything in FMP 7. Minimum version should be 8.0.

Here are some of my notes on compatibility. (These are not exhaustive and may not be completely accurate either.) I'd use the DDR or Base Elements to search through a solution and look for features, and from that work out the minimum version required. Eg, if a script uses the append to PDF step than it needs FMP 9.0. If it uses web viewers then it needs 8.5.

Features that require FMP 8.0 (2005) or later: local and global variables and the Let() function, tab controls, calendar dropdowns, autocomplete, visual spell checker, save as pdf, save as excel. Last version was 8.0v3.

Features that require FMP 8.5 (2006) or later: support for Intel Macs, web viewer, layout object functions and scripts. Last version was 8.5v2. Only 8.5v2 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 and WIndows Vista (except for IWP on Mac).

Features that require FMP 9.0 (2007) or later: Windows Vista compatibility, auto-resize layout objects, script grouping, ESS connection to SQL data sources, append to pdf, conditional formatting, GetLayoutObjectAttribute function. Last version was 9.0v3. Only 9.0v3 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.

Features that require FMP 10.0 (2009) or later: status area moved to top of window and customisable by user; script triggers; sub0summary layout display in browse mode; automatic re-sort.
