Newbies Chazzery Posted December 18, 2009 Newbies Posted December 18, 2009 I do not have much experience in FMP and am trying to create a database that tracks department assets on a movie. I have one main table with many fields, one of which is called "Set ID." A 2nd table contains "Set ID" as well as "Set Color" (I am using conditional formatting based on the corresponding color, otherwise I would simply list the Set ID as custom values list within the database) The 2nd table contains the list of 18 set IDs and corresponding color codes. In the layout for the 1st table I have attempted a drop-down list that includes the values from "Set ID" in the 2nd table. My problem is this: The ONLY way I can get the drop-down list to appear is if I not only set-up a relationship between the two tables (linking Set ID to Set ID) but ALSO check "Allow creation of records in this table via this relationship" for BOTH tables. When I do this, each time I create a new record and select an option from the drop-down list, NEW records are created/jumbled in the referenced table. After creating a couple records, I went back to the table of set names that is being referenced, and it is suddenly completely jumbled! This doesn't make any sense to me - why would anyone want this? All I want is to be able to access the Set ID data in the 2nd table as a drop-down list - why would doing so also change the list itself? I've been trying to figure this out for days, if someone can provide any insight, I would be most appreciative! Thanks!
comment Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 It sounds like the field with the drop-down is actually a field from the 2nd table.
Newbies Chazzery Posted December 18, 2009 Author Newbies Posted December 18, 2009 THAT WAS IT!!! I must have inadvertently done that early on when fooling with the settings on the layout page. I figured all I needed was someone to lead me to a "DUH" moment - I am so out of practice with FMP. Thank you so so much!!!
