Ryan P Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I couldn't seem to find any topics that already addressed so sorry if I'm repeating a topic. Just a quick question, I have a portal with several records and I tried to make a script to filer those records and it didn't seem to ever return any results. Then, I tried doing this manually with the find button and still perpetually receive the no records message. So is it possible to perform a find inside a portal? If so what is the best way of doing so and can I automate it using a script?
Søren Dyhr Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 It's not absolutely clear what you wish to do here. Is it an AND'ed search such at get me the invoice where we shipped 4 wrenches and 5 gadgets, or is it more loosely getting the invoices where either a wrench "OR" a gadget might occur alone or both at the same time??? --sd
LaRetta Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I tried to make a script to filer those records ... or is it that you wish to end up with fewer records in the portal for that main record (only matching what you are searching for)? When you perform a find in a portal, you will find MAIN records which have portal records to match. Finds never adjust the records displayed in the portal itself. So, as Søren suggests, please tell us exactly what you are searching for and whether the results should be a list of main records or a filtered portal. :smile2:
Ryan P Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 Sorry for the long absence from these forums, it seems holidays will do that… Anyway, I wish to filter the portal. For example, the main record is for workers, and each worker will have a number of wrenches and gadgets displayed in a portal, and I want to filter that portal to only display wrenches when I run a script. Thanks for your help
comment Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 To filter a portal, you must filter the relationship - see an example here: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/201079/post/317020/#317020
