Newbies CasparL Posted December 30, 2009 Newbies Posted December 30, 2009 I could not find a better forum for this, so please tell me if i posted it wrong and where i should have posted it. I am trying to print with filemaker pro 4.1 and i get the error "Printer is not connected to a port". I have added a new printer and removed the old after this. And also i have tried to reset the profile, added the printer again, and tried again. The printers that are used are network printers. Does anyone have an idea on how i should resolve this issue.
IdealData Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 FM 4.1 is very old now and IIRC was released when WIN 95/98 was the supported OS. Not sure it will run Win 2003.
Newbies CasparL Posted December 30, 2009 Author Newbies Posted December 30, 2009 Filemaker pro itself is working, and after adding a new printer i get this error. The printer i use now is the Xerox 7435.
Lee Smith Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I'm not a windows person, but could this be that the drivers for your printer are not compatible with Windows 2003. Usually we advise users to be sure they have the most recent drivers for their New Operating System. In this case I'm wondering if it may be that the new printer drivers are not compatible with Win 2003. Hope this is helpful. Lee
Newbies CasparL Posted December 30, 2009 Author Newbies Posted December 30, 2009 All other aplications work normaly with this printer. Only FileMaker Pro gives errors with this printer. Could it be that its because i use Postscript Drivers instaid of PCL Drivers?
Lee Smith Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Are you using a Script to print? if so, you probably need to ape a manual script for printing and Replace the existing. Can you print manually to the Printer? HTH Lee
IdealData Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Even though FM may appear to be working there is no guarantee that all functionality can be supported on a non supported OS. The fact that other applications are working suggests that: 1. The other applications are supported correctly for the OS 2. FM 4.1 doesn't like printing on that OS If, however you have another printer that works with FM then I am quite wrong.
Newbies CasparL Posted December 31, 2009 Author Newbies Posted December 31, 2009 Printing has been working untill recently on this computer. Only after adding a new printer, and using that as the default printer, it stoped printing.
Lee Smith Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I repeat my thought above. This sounds like a driver problem. According to this site Link the printer isn't compatible, or supported for use with WIN 95/98. I suggest that you discuss this problem with the printer manufacture to see if there is a work around. HTH Lee
