I've used FM over the years in a very superficial way. Now I'm trying to adapt one of the existing templates: Expense Report. I want add a field, Expense_Vendor (in order to identify the company the expense went to), to the Expenses table and have it show up in the portal of the layout "Expense Report". I've done that with no problem, but I'm not able to type into the field in the portal. I've tried looking at the other fields in the portal (Expense_type, Expenses_day 1, _day 2 etc.) to find what the difference in my new field is without any luck. I notice that these other fields have a small rectangle at the bottom, in layout view, that my field doesn't.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The small rectangle at the bottom is simply an indication that the field has a tooltip attached.

Do you have Field Control>Behavior set to allow entry in Browse Mode?

I agree. I wish that Field Control was one dialog, perhaps with tab panels.
