January 13, 201016 yr Not sure where this one belongs, so here goes. I have a storefront file, and in the register part, upon checkout, I have a dialog box that pops up at one point asking how much is being paid - normally it's the whole bill as one payment, but let's say you want to pay part in cash, then the remaining on your credit card. So what I have done is when the dialog box pops up, the total remaining due (whether the whole bill or what's left to be paid) is in the entry field, and highlighted. That way if you are paying the full amount due, the clerk just hits enter, or they can just type in the partial amount. That part all works great, but the problem is I can't format the number field in the dialog box. So if you owe $20.50, it shows up as 20.5 Is there any way of formating a number in a dialog box?
January 14, 201016 yr Hey there... Im not a pro, but this is what i found for you... - In layout mode, right click on the field you want to display in currency format ($24.50) - Select "Number Format" - now you can specify how many decimal places to show and weather or not to show the $ sign. Hope that helps!

Try making it a Text field being used for dialog input instead of a numeric one. Copy the value to the numeric field after the dialog is finished. You could use a global text field for this temporary usage.

Hope that helps! That won't work - I've already done this. The problem is that even though you format the number, FMP still sees the raw data - the format is just to make it easer for you to read. When you format the number, it only formats that one field. The field in the text box is a separate field, even though technically it's the same one from the table. The format does not carry over. I'll give the global text a try and see what happens.
January 14, 201016 yr What about creating another layout with the fields required and have it open in a new window just big enough for it.(rather than a dialogue box) This will allow you to format the fields however you want and you wont be stuck with the default FMP settings?:B
