El_Pablo
Quick one! Allow the creation of runtime solution running on external files! This would just be awesome!
mr_vodka
If you mean external sources then I dont ever see them doing that. Then all one would have to do is purchase ONE copy of FileMaker and then create a runtime front end to a MySQL, Oracle, or MS SQL db.
El_Pablo
So this is only a money question and not a feature one. If I develop a .Net layer in MSVS over a FM database, MS won't ask me to buy a VS license each time. No wonder why there are less and less FM developpers. Only developpers with experience from the 80s and 90s remain...
mr_vodka
Yes but then YOU would have to develop a personal .NET front end / logic layer. However, you have programming experience. Imagine companies getting one copy of Pro, creating a front end runtime to MySQL. So for $300 bux they can get a solution up and running without hiring a .Net programmer. Doesnt sound like a good business plan.
El_Pablo
I'm not a marketing guy, but, IMHO, if they do that, they could sell a way more licenses, because more developper would go with FM. They will then win on volume sales. I guess most developper would agree that the real power of FM is its rapid application development ability. I have not yet found an other product that could develop solution as fast as FM.
