When I put my cursor on a random place in my database when I am not in layout mode most of the fields highlight and some dont. I tried finding where to turn this off but cant.

I am not referring to layout mode/layout setup/show field frames. That isnt checked and still see fields getting a dotted highlight.

How can I turn this off completely?

If you are sure that Show Field Frames is unchecked then I don't know what would cause the dotted outlines on the fields unless you have borders on and pattern set to one of the dotted options or have pen pattern set to dotted. Can you copy some of those fields and place them in a new sample file so we can see what is happening?

If I understand your question correctly, I believe the dotted lines you are referring to are designed to show which fields are enterable. If you change this in 'Field Behavior' for any given field, the dotted lines disappear and you can no longer enter the field in browse and/or Find mode.

Apologies and please let me know if I've misunderstood the question.

You may be on to something, Bob ... :wink2:

sicSRT8, if you mean that you press and hold down your left mouse button (when you point at a blank spot on your layout) and all the fields (which can be changed) inherit dotted lines (only while holding down the button) then Bob is correct.

The only way around it would be to turn off entry in Browse and attach script to every field; it would need to be script and not Specify Button. I wouldn't think it would be worth it but I admit the flash if User clicks outside of a field can be irritating. :smirk:
