flyf Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I would like to ask the community for advice (both available online and even moderately priced training) on how to train myself with the advanced scripting, script triggers, separation of data knowledge and calculations that are required to create databases. I have no background in computer science, operating systems, etc but I have been efficient enough for my company to put me in charge of our database. I have taken intermediate and advanced classes but after asking my instructor for suggestions of how to train myself in such things, I was told there is no such class available. He said that there are developer classes and so forth but that it is really meant for people who do this professionally and would be over my head anyway. I would like to learn but I can't devote my full time to this and I don't have a ton of money to spend on many sessions as I have a regular job already. I spend lots of time surfing the forum but when I read that I should use this function or that function, I have a difficult time implementing it because I don't know enough about global storage or the boolean calculations required to make it run appropriately. Sorry to be long winded but I would really love some advice on what someone in this position should do. I feel like many others are probably in the same kind of predicament. They don't have the resources to spend on a consultant but are responsible for the entire database. Thanks in advance and for reading this long post!
mr_vodka Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Nothing beats experience. I would keep on the forums as they are a great source of information. If you are looking into video training, VTC has some that just happen to have some sections taught by some of the forum members here.
